National Solid Waste Management Authority embarks upon Staff Development Initiative
St. John's, Antigua
On Tuesday 1st May, the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) launched the first of its internal staff training workshops for 2007 with the first theme being "Delivering Exceptional Customer Service". The 1st installment of the Customer Care Workshop targeted members of the administrative staff, field supervisors and members of the managerial staff. Future workshops have also been scheduled within the month of May to cater for the staff of the Disposal Department and the Collections Department. Representatives from the Barbuda Solid Waste Unit were also invited and have been incorporated into the inaugural training program.
Under the auspices of the Board of Directors, and with the direction of the General Manager, Mrs. Denise Roberts, the training workshops have been designed to strategically improve upon the many facets of the service that the Authority provides. The lead facilitator of the workshops is Mrs. Myrtle Looby, founder and CEO of the Leadership Empowerment Accountability Professionalism (LEAP) Training Consultants.
Over the period of 1st May to 31st May, a total of 6 training sessions will seek to empower staff members by examining the present and changing roles of the Authority and by seeking to identify the responses to the needs and expectations of the internal and external customers.
At the end of the first training session, participants were able to build upon their existing interpersonal and communication skills with the expectation of being able to transfer the recently acquired tools and abilities into the everyday routine while striving to enhance the customer experience.
